A Theatrical Concert Experience

The Beat Goes On unfolds in a concert-style setting backed by a four-piece band whose members have performed together for more than 20 years, bringing musical chemistry, authenticity, and power to every moment onstage.

Created by singer and actress Lisa McClowry, winner of Tribute Artist of the Year, the show celebrates the life, music, and cultural impact of Cher through live performance and first-person storytelling.

Told in the First Person

McClowry performs as Cher while voicing her extraordinary story in the first person — inviting audiences to experience the journey as if Cher herself were reflecting on her life, career, and legacy.

A professional singer and actress throughout her adult life, McClowry has been performing as Cher since 2016. Every detail — from vocal style and movement to makeup and iconic fashion — serves the storytelling rather than imitation for imitation’s sake.

Music, Memory & Transformation

Using actual Cher footage and photos woven seamlessly throughout the production, The Beat Goes On incorporates eight dynamic costume changes to transport audiences through Cher’s life — from her childhood and early influences to career-defining milestones. Career highlights, family history, and personal reflections are revealed through multimedia and first-person narration, drawing audiences into Cher’s emotional journey.

The Music

Musically, the show spans Cher’s legendary catalog from the 1960s to today — performed live and woven seamlessly into the story.

Bonding Moments

A defining feature of the production is what McClowry calls “Bonding Moments” — intentional points where the fourth wall disappears and genuine connection takes center stage.

At key moments, Lisa steps off the stage and into the audience, creating shared experiences that invite viewers to feel part of Cher’s story rather than simply observe it.

A Celebration of Women
The female empowerment segment begins with Shoop Shoop (It’s In His Kiss) and builds into Woman’s World, transforming the theater into a shared celebration of confidence, resilience, and collective strength.

A Note From the Creator

As the creator of The Beat Goes On, I am honored to bring Cher’s extraordinary life and music to the stage in a way that celebrates not only her iconic career, but the strength, vulnerability, and fearlessness that define her as an artist and as a woman.

Like Cher, who so powerfully portrayed real women in films such as Silkwood and Mask, this production is rooted in respect for truth, courage, and authenticity. Cher’s performances as activist Dolly Pelliker in Silkwood—which earned her an Academy Award nomination—and as Rusty Dennis in Mask, for which she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, revealed a depth and humanity that extended far beyond music. I remember watching interviews where she spoke about the responsibility she felt to honor these women’s lives with honesty and integrity. That commitment left a lasting impression on me.

That same sense of responsibility guides The Beat Goes On. This show is not about imitation, but interpretation—honoring Cher as a living, breathing, powerful, and vulnerable human being. Through live music, storytelling, and performance, I strive to reflect her larger-than-life presence while keeping the experience grounded in emotional truth.

Thank you, Cher, wherever you are, for creating a legacy of courage and belonging — empowering women, the LGBTQ+ community, and people everywhere to take chances, speak their minds, and live authentically. Portraying your story has brought my own inner strength to the surface, allowing me to balance boldness with vulnerability. It is a privilege to carry that spirit forward on stage and share it with audiences everywhere.

With Gratitude,
Lisa McClowry
